New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1908. First Edition. Octavo. Item #022174
310pp., publisher's catalog at rear. illustrated with several full page and folding plates. This work grew from lectures delivered at Columbia University. The subject presents a wide field of the solar system. In order to keep within reasonable bounds, many interesting subjects had to be omitted. Mars was given more than usual space. This book was written with the student in mind, eliminating most of the technical aspects including the use of mathematics. A fine bright copy bound in green cloth stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt, very tiny nick to upper joint, previous owner's name dated 1912.
