Rather than compiling a work simply with historical facts, the author has endeavored to lighten it with legends, traditions, anecdotes, and ballads, many of which are now, for the first time, printed from the original manuscripts. A handsome copy bound in full tan polished calf, boards trimmed in a decorative gilt borders, raised bands with compartments fully gilt decorated, brown morocco spine label gilt, all edges gilt, inner gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers. Some marginal soiling or foxing, but mostly clean, joints have been finely strengthened.
