In three volumes. Vol I: 537pp. includes index, 89 color(tinted) plates including one chart, 2 folding color woodcuts, 5 maps of which two are folding. p. 245 is numbered 2. Vol. II: 414pp., xi (index) p. 49 numbered 4, 24 full plates in black and white, with bird and fish plates in beautiful bright color.3 maps(2 are folding) 15 charts and 14 folding charts, 14pp. facsimile of Japanese Treaty in Japanese. Vol. 3: 705pp. which consist of 352 full page plates of the Observations on the Zodiacal Light with facing descriptive text .Volume 1; the first 43 pages have the outer margins mended with old clear tape(edges chipping) page 15 has large closed tear repair, a plate opposite p. 281 which is the "Lew Chew" and not the" Inner Harbor plate. The charts in volume 3 are some closed tears, splits or staining with two laid in. Volumes interspersed with toning, plates clean especially the birds and fish plates, some dampstaing to bottom margins of the chats in vol.2. All volumes had been professionally rebound in 1/4 greenleather over marbled paper covered boards, red leather spine labels gilt, raised bands ruled in gilt, a few stains. Over all a good set lacking the surpressed bathing plate.
