London: for Lockyer Davis, 1780. Folio. Item #022070
164 full page engraved plates of Egypt, Nubia and Thebes along with maps drawn by the author and portrait of the author by Martin Teuscher of Nuremburg. The author was the Commander of a Vessel sent by the King of Denmark to collect materials towards explaining the history of those countries. He was also a member of the Royal Societies of London, Paris and Copenhagen. The last engraving with a small piece torn away from center of plate, plate after frontispiece and plate 73 have an old closed tear repair to verso. There is some scattered foxing mostly to margins and a marginal dampstain along bottom edge of first few leaves. Rebound in 3/4 black leather over marbled paper covered boards, spine lettered and ruled in gilt. Very good.
