London: For T. Cadell and W. Davies, 1820. Octavo. Item #022066
In two volumes. xcii, 429pp. and v. 415pp. Beautifully illustrated with engravings by Thomas Strothard. This work has been considered Defoe's most brilliant work, his masterpiece. It was a powerful influence of the juvenile mind of England during a period when there were very few productions of English genius in any language. This is a very handsome set beautifully bound by Bayntun (signed) in full brown crushed morocco, raised bands, lettering gilt within three compartments, gilt doublures, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. An exceptional set.
