In two volumes, xiv, 360 and ii, 303pp. Engraved frontispieces of Sir Ashley Paston Cooper and Sir Henry Halford. The preliminary chapter was written for the purpose of demonstrating the antiquity of the science of medicine and to defend its professors. The chapter Early Struggles of Eminent physicians, the author shows their struggles, heart breaks and adversity. He also states the histories of the eminent living physicians and surgeons contained in these pages are necessarily brief, and they may be, in some instances, imperfect; nothing is whithhead which would add to their reputation. A beautiful set bound by root in 3/4 dark blue crushed morocco over blue coth, raised bands with compartments rule and lettered in gilt, top edges gilt. Previous owner inscriptions. A fine set.
