From the library of Dr. Sydney Ross, born in Scotland, Emeritus Professor of Colloid Science Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He wrote four books, edited three more, published over 150 papers, and mentored more than 30 doctoral students. Inspired by the writings of John Ruskin, Ross began collecting many rare books, literary and scientific. He published The Catalogue of the Herschel Library.157pp., bound in maroon cloth, spine gilt, two bumped corners, spine ends and joints lightly rubbed, small obituary of the author mounted to rear pastedown. A very nice copy.
