Alexander was one of the leading Presbyterian pastors of his day who between pastorates taught Rhetoric at Princeton and lectured on literary topics both in the college and the seminary. Alexander's career was cut short with health problems at age 55. During his career he wrote the words to a number of hymns including: "O Sacred Head Now Wounded." Bound in 1/4 red straight grained morocco over marbled paper covered boards, boards rubbed, corners worn, a bit of wear to foot, contemporary owner's name some scattered foxing. A good copy.
