Hawaii and Its Race Problem

Washington, DC: GPO, 1932. Decorated Cloth. Very Good. Item #016420

131p. Inscribed by the author who was Executive Assistant of the Interior. The racial background was becoming an issue where Japanese outnumbered native Hawaiians, followed by Filipinos, Portuguese, Caucasians, Chinese, and miscellaneous other races. Much on the early culture, the missionary influence and the beginning of tourism. Many illustrations including native Hawaiians surfing (no Caucasians yet), the native girls of Hawaii, the sugar cane, pineapple harvests, etc. A fascinating look at the territory less than ten years before Pearl Harbor.

Price: $90.00
