Omaha , Nebraska: M.F. Shafer & Co, 1919. 10" x 12 1/2 " Oblong. Item #016049
92p. A very nice copy depicting the primary training center for the Balloon Section of the American Expeditionary Force which had been disbanded in 1913 but as the war clouds loomed was reactivated in 1916. The yearbook was completed in 1919 from the collection of Calvin D. McGovern who was in the 82nd Balloon Company. Here there is the identification of the various types and shapes of the balloons; drachen type, old type, and the first and only Dirigible balloon which was bought for the Army and put into service at the balloon house upon its completion. While the training school was in Nebraska, men were also trained for supply work at the facility in Arcadia, CA. (included is his 5" x 8" photograph of the company dated 1918-1919, an 8" x 10" photograph of him in uniform with some chips outside his image, 5 smaller photographs of him in uniform, and four of him in civilian life).
