Two parts in one, each with title pages, 339pp., Dallington's 36 Aphorisms reflects his compassion with the Essex literary circle and their influential dedication to forging connections between England and the continent, between study and action, and between past and present. Dallington defends the earl of Essex's political agenda and champion's Essex's belief that history offers counsel for the present. This work also combines an example of Guicciardini's Storia D'Italia with relevant meaning in a simplified, format. [with] A Brief Inference Upon Guicciardini's Digression, in the fourth part of the first Quarter of his History. Forbidden the Impression, and effaced out of the Original by the Inquisition, in answer to a Letter from an Honorable Friend. 61pp. The second corrected edition, later binding of 3/4 leather over marbled paper covered boards, raised bands, red morocco label gilt, five compartments fully gilt decorated, near contemporary notes on last blank. A very nice copy without foxing.
