"Roy Bedichek" in the Texas Observer, Vol. 51, No. 12 (June 27, 1951)

Austin, Tx; June, 27, 1959: Texas Observer. Folio. Item #013645

An issue devoted to Bedichek with a special insert. Dobie's tribute is magnificent with 13 long columns. The rest of the paper tells much about one of the most amazing men in Texas that shows what it is about Dobie and the men around him which draws those who love authenticity. Very scarce and honest as Dr. Bedi loved the Russian novelist, memorized Walt Whitman, walked around cow manure and rather than use damnable mechanical devices would irrigate the grass with his urine and would prefer to dig a hole to put his excrement which he would cover like a cat. A great mind and earthy where his knowledge of great literature and bawdy stories showed a man whose intellect did not deny the realities of what normal people think. My only regret is that I did not know personally either Dobie or Bedichek, both of whom were more honest by far than their tiresome critics. Paper toned. A good copy. [McVickers, C 452a.].
