This work provides a picture of the late medieval surgeon with twenty-two full-page woodcuts and two larged folding plates all by Hans Wachtlin. They used the fourteenth-century Chirurgia mana by Guy de Chaulica along with their own experiences but they have shown the instruments and their use in an operation including procedures dealing with depressed skull fractures or stretching a fractured limb. The work concludes with a glossary of the most common Latin medical terms and their vernacular translations. A handsome work bound in 1/4 brown polished calf over marbled paper covered boards, spine lettered in gilt, spine faded, housed within slipcase.
