176p. with Supplement 94p. The first volume inscribed: "to my ever faithful Secretary, Claire Liske, from Charles H. Tuttle, April 21, 1969." From his appointment by President Coolidge to become a US Attorney for Southern New York to his crusades against corruption he ran for the governorship of New York in 1930 but was defeated by F.D.R. who was using it as a springboard to the Presidency. His later life he fought aginst racial discrimination and served as General Counsel for the National Council of Churches for two decades. He also was an early supporter of Billy Graham in the New York crusade of 1954. His latter chapters of the supplemental volume provide an update of his sharpness of mind and civic and spiritual interests even as he reached age 91. A remarkable person whose obituary appeared in the New York Times. A printed card by him is laid in within which appear several newspaper clippings.
