499 (1)pp illustrated by James S. Bodero, with a foreword by Arthur M. Ellis. One of the important accounts of early California. Major Bell joined Walker on his Filibustering Expedition. He was also one of the band that captured Joaquin Murietta. This issue corrects some of the confused readings of the first edition in 1881. An unusually bright copy bound in green pictorial gilt cloth, spine lettering gilt, in very good unclipped red pictorial dust jacket lettered and decorated in black, chipping to corners and spine ends, a few small chips to upper edge of rear panel, some darkening to spine, one bumped corner, no names or bookplates.
