The Dawn (Les Aubes)
London: Duckworth and Co., 1898. First Edition. Small Octavo. Item #010681
110pp, (12)pp. publisher's ads. Symonds states that Verhaeren presents a thought like a picture, of which he is an accomplished master. This play is written in a mixture of prose and verse, which, in France, is a very novel experience. Symond translated Verhaeren's verse following all his rhythms with great exactitude. He did, for the most part, used unrhymed in place of rhymed verse, reserving rhyme for the speeches of the seer. Bound in green cloth , spine lettering gilt, some off-setting to front and rear endpapers, a few light spots of foxing to edges and a few leaves. A very nice copy.
