Memoirs, Autobiography-First Draft Journal
New York; (1973): The Macmillan Co. First American Edition. Octavo. Item #010113
318 pp. edited and transcribed by Denis Donoghue. In the year 1921, Yeats sealed up the original draft of his memoirs that he had written some five years earlier and noted on the envelope; Private….containing much that is not for publication now, if ever." This manuscript has now been released for publication in its entirety for the first time. Also included is the full text of a journal he began in 1908 and kept intermittently until 1930 noting down drafts of poems and reminiscences of which he remarked, "They are quite frank, and the part that cannot be printed while I am alive is the amusing part." Bound in brown cloth, spine lettering gilt, one bumped corner, in a very good unclipped brown pictorial dust jacket lettered in white, orange and black, small wrinkle near bumped corner spine just a bit faded. A very good copy.
