The Rescue of Greely

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1886. First Edition. Octavo. Item #007541

Frontispiece, 277 pp. Fold-out map in pocket end of text, illustrated with photographic images. The authors describe the events that happened during the expedition to Lady Franklin Bay and of the two voyages undertaken for its relief before they left the harbor. They simply wrote as the events occurred, and studiously to avoid all criticism of those who took part in them. The photographic images were taken during the voyage of the Relief Expedition of 1884. An ex- library copy with their stamp on title page, bound in full brown cloth ruled in black, nicely rebacked with original gilt lettered spine laid down, number to foot in black, endpapers renewed, folding map at rear with repairs and some closed tears, plate opposite page 196 with toning to edges and outer margins torn away not affecting picture. A good copy.
