Clifton, NJ; (1981): Amwell Press. Limited Edition. Octavo. Item #027432
Limited to 1000 copies, the present copy is # 111 signed by the author and president of Amwell Press Jim Rikhoff. 252 pages, original line drawings and color frontispiece by Bob Kuhn, with photographs from the author's private collection. Fifth title in the African Hunting Heritage Series. The Appendix in the back of the book provides a bibliography of important titles. Like most dedicated hunters of big game they realize the author realizes that the elephants need protection but he points out how the local administrators have become bureaucrats and care little for anything other than protecting their jobs. He provides statistics about the abundant elephant population at the time; however, those numbers have begun to dwindle and the role of international conservation and control of the ivory trade are now major issues in the battle between responsible preservation of the elephant and the poachers and their allies. A fine copy bound in an ivory toned leather centrally stamped in gilt depicting an elephant, pictorial spine ruled and lettered in gilt, housed in publisher’s slipcase.
