This is a collection of sixty-one Civil War letters, forty-seven were written by Sergeant Andrus to his wife, the rest to or from his sister, his elder brother, his parents and Lodema. These letters portrayed the feelings and changing moods of the lonely soldier far from home, uncertain even of the day's movements of his regiment, and enduring, through not always patiently, all kinds of privations and hardships. Bound in green cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, A small bump to upper edge of upper board, previous owner's gift inscription. Near fine in very good clipped dust jacket with closed edge tear to upper front panel, some toning or staining to spine and edges.
