This is a collection of sixty-one Civil War letters, forty-seven were written by Sergeant Andrus to his wife, the rest to or from his sister, his elder brother, his parents and Lodema. These letters portrayed the feelings and changing moods of the lonely soldier far from home, uncertain even of the day's movements of his regiment, and enduring, through not always patiently, all kinds of privations and hardships.
