Faas, Horst; Tim Page. Requirem; By the Photographers who died in Vietnam and Indochina (signed By Horst Faas); Introduction By David Halberstam. New York: Random House, 1997. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Fine / Fine. 336p. Between the height of the French Indochina War in the fifties and the fall of Phnom Penh and Saigon in 1975, 135 photographers from all sides of the conflict are recorded as missing or having been killed. This book is a memorial to those men and women and in many cases it includes the last photographs they took. Signed on the half title page by Horst Faas. Surely the most important photographic history of the horror both of those who photographed the conflict and their own tragic end. There is a chapter showing 17 photographs of those photojournalist heroes who were missing in Laos. There is a biography of each of the photographers who died at the end. A book that is haunting with photographs that recall in a vivid way of a war that was Hell and in which those who served were largely neglected if not scorned. This book is for those who want to see truth and are prepared to deal with the horror shown in a graphic way that stands among the greatest examples of war photography.
