Second edition but the first illustrated edition. 221pp., Illustrated and designed with 47 cuts by Thomas Bewick. Bewick became a popular innovator of the use of wood for illustrations. He carved hard boxwood across the grain to achieve a smooth surface for his fine illustrations. A very nice copy bound in contemporary calf, boards trimmed with a decorative gilt roll, spine with slightly raised bands, black morocco spine label gilt, other compartments gilt decorated, light chipping to spine ends, marbled endpapers, joints and corners rubbed.
