Cyclopedia on Pawnbroking; Small Loans and Finance Companies, Operations, Regulations

Cincinnati: J.W. Taylor Pub. Co, 1943. First Edition. Octavo. Item #018969

xiii [xiv] 284 pages. Henry Green Hodges After years as a Professor on Management, he wrote what was his most important work on Pawnbroking. Besides being a major study of the principles of pawnbroking, he has written in detail the principles that make this work a classic. While not as extensive as Samuel W. Levine's classic on the history of Pawnbroking, he has noted everything essential for understanding the inner workings of the pawn business. This book also has been found in law libraries since its principles have remained essentially unchanged over the past three-quarters of a century. Of course, essential for those who understand the loan of the pawnbroker who once said: "My customers cannot get a $200 loan from a bank but in the process of what we can do, they can get over a hump in their lives and enable us to at least make a profit on most transactions." Bound in brown cloth lettered in silver, spine silver, two slightly bumed corners, in dust jacket showing edge wear and chipping. A very good copy of this scarce work.
