Craven, Wesley Frank and James Lea Cate (editors). THE ARMY AIR FORCES IN WORLD WAR II ( All Seven Volumes in dj). Chicago and London; (1964 and 1966): University of Chicago Press, First Edition. Quarto. In seven volumes, mixed impressions, each bound in blue cloth, emblem to upper boards stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt, a couple of lightly bumped corners otherwise a fine , bright set in dust jackets showing very little wear with only a few minor nicks, volume seven showing some chipping to head and edge wear to rear panel. A very nice set containing the elusive seventh volume which was published several years later. Each volume is devoted to a specific area of WWII.

throughout book and on endpapers. Very scarce in dust jacket which has silhouetted drawing of a
doughboy and marching helmets marching (drawn by Will Andrews). Pencil line notes in margins else a
near fine copy.

Distributed only to the members of the "Batterie Thiele" including Feld Artillerie-Regiment No. 39, Feld Artillerie-Regimen No. 103, Infanterie Geschutz-Batterie No. 36. Notation on inner front cover suggests that possibly 800 copies were distributed to veterans of the war but no copies appear on OCLC.

A new edition, with additional notes and plates and a general index, illustrated with numerous engravings on steel and wood from designs by Edward Duncan, Birket Foster, Richard Westall and others, 400pp., bound in full blue polished calf, board edges double ruled in gilt with corner devices, raised bands with compartments fully gilt decorated, brown morocco spine label gilt, all edges marbled with matching endpapers. A lovely copy.
