Wallace, George. The Nature and Descent of Ancient Peerages, Connected with the State of Scotland. London:, T. Cadell, 1785. 2nd revised edition with additions and corrections. 8vo. viii, [9]-520pp. A remarkably fine copy with bookplate of Seton of Ekolsmund. Wallace's corrected Peerage, of course, still is essential for not only for showing how the peerages arose but the intense religious, clan, and territorial aspects of Scottish history. See George Gatfield, Guide to Printed Books and Manuscripts Relating to English and Foreign Heraldry and Genealogy. Dictionary of National Biography, vol. 20, page 560.
